1934 Wisden Paperback

£95.00 £71.25

Thank you for looking at this Decent 1934 Wisden Paperback. This edition is the seventy-first almanack.

When building a Wisden collection some particular years are simply a ‘must have’ and 1934 is one of them. This edition contains the full record, analysis and extensive comment on the MCC tour of Australia in 1932-1933, or the ‘Bodyline’ tour as it has become known.
Such was the ferocity of the English bowling that it led to condemnation in both countries and questions in Parliament.  The England quickies led by Larwood were instructed by the Captain, Douglas Jardine to bowl at the body of the Aussie batsman, thus restricting their infamous run-getting capability and the consternation from the cricket authorities, media and spectators created a tidal wave of venom against the tourists.

This almanack covers the tour and its repercussions. Larwood, acting under orders, was never to play for England again after refusing to apologise. Jardine was never asked to apologise and yet it was he who instigated the strategy.

The covers on this edition are aged – they are complete – but they look aged. Hopefully the photograph shows this. There is ageing to the edges of both the front and the rear covers, no wording is lost. There is a very very slight loss to the bottom left of the rear cover.

The spine is decent, again it is aged  and there is slight loss to the top and foot. it is firm and with care it will not need to be rebound. The contents of this edition are in very nice condition – the pages are clean and I cannot find any ageing of note – I apologise profusely if I have missed something and if I have, naturally as always, a full refund will be given if you want to return it.

The page block is dusty and there are some ink marks on the top and the underside of the block – these have not gone through to the pages within.

The bat bookmark is present, minus the handle.

The Bowling Controversy.
