1934 Wisden Rebound Paperback

£150.00

Thank you for looking at this Very Good+ condition 1934 Rebound Wisden Paperback. This edition is the seventy-first almanack.

When building a Wisden collection some particular years are simply a ‘must have’ and 1934 is one of them. This edition contains the full record, analysis and extensive comment on the MCC tour of Australia in 1932-1933, or the ‘Bodyline’ tour as it has become known.
Such was the ferocity of the English bowling that it led to condemnation in both countries and questions in Parliament.  The England quickies led by Larwood were instructed by the Captain, Douglas Jardine to bowl at the body of the Aussie batsman, thus restricting their infamous run-getting capability and the consternation from the cricket authorities, media and spectators created a tidal wave of venom against the tourists.

This almanack covers the tour and its repercussions. Larwood, acting under orders, was never to play for England again after refusing to apologise. Jardine was never asked to apologise and yet it was he who instigated the strategy.

The boards are in very good condition – as can be seen on the photographs the front-end back are patterned, the binding was undertaken possibly over 70-80 years ago by Foyles of London. The front of the board is blank, year and title to the spine.
The original front and rear wrappers are lacking.

The pages within are in lovely condition. There is very little ageing throughout. The advertisements to the front and rear are present.

The page block is very very good.
