1942 Willows Wisden Soft Back

£90.00 £72.00

This is a STUNNING Willows Wisden 1942 Soft Back in light tan boards. The 79th edition.

It can be confusing buying a Willows.
The Willows publishing company were allowed, under license from John Wisden & Co, to re-print up to 1500 copies of every year from 1879 to 1946 inclusive (This quota was not reached for a lot of years). From 1879 to 1895 a single style was produced for each year – in effect the original Wisden Paperback was reprinted and placed in light tan hard boards – with the year and title to the front and the spine and the number on the spine.

In 1896 and up to 1937 two different reprints were published – the original as described above and an exact replica of the Wisden hardback edition that was first published in 1896. This reprint was produced in dark boards with details on the front, spine and back cover and internally an exact replica in layout of the original Wisden. The quota of 1500 was still in force, so each year from 1896 a number of ‘light tan’ and a number of ‘dark brown hardback’ editions were produced.

From 1938 to 1946 Willows offered the above two styles and a third – the third was a reprint of the soft back Wisden but not housed in any boards.

The edition listed here is a 1942 edition, reprinted and housed in light tan boards.

It is internally and externally, exceptional.

It is numbered.
