1948 Wisden Hardback

£290.00

Thank you for looking at this Lovely+  condition 1948 Wisden Hardback. The 85th edition.

The boards on this edition are in super condition. They are strong and firm. The gilt to both the front and to the spine is bright and delightful.

Internal hinges are very very important on Wisdens – this is because weak hinges will result in breakage with normal reading. The hinges on this edition are in lovely condition.

The pages within are also in super condition, very bright and clean throughout.

The 1948 Wisden  was produced using two different types of paper. The first 70 pages and the final 180+ are superior quality paper, the central pages are of lesser quality. Again, post war shortages and the decision by Wisden to increase the pagination by 200+ pages in late 1947 meant that the only paper available was that of lesser quality – 90% of all Wisdens for 1948 were produced this way. The result – a two-tone look on the page block and the central block of pages all have brownish tops to the top and foot. There is  browning on this edition.

The page block is a little dusty to the top, super to the side.

Contents Include:
Compton and Edrich – RC Robertson-Glasgow.
No Magic in Fast Bowling – CJ Kortwright.
Sir Stanley Jackson.
The Second Class Counties in 1947.
