1965 Wisden Hardback

£90.00

This is a Super condition 1965 Hardback. The 102nd edition.

The original dust jacket is in super condition, bright and clean to the covers, with the minimalist of a mark at the top right of the front and some marks to the rear cover –  the spine is also super, just a little lighter than the covers, but this is very normal on ’65s.

Internally the boards and pages within are excellent, as is the page block.

The 1965 was the first Wisden to be published with a yellow dust jacket – collectors did not warm to the dust jacket and it is known that the editor received over 500 letters containing ‘cut up’ jackets. Traditionalists who wanted the almanack without a jacket were disappointed as the jackets have continued ever since. The editor received over a hundred letters once the 1966 was printed asking if there were any ‘spare’ 1965 jackets remaining, there were none.
Pressure from retailers encouraged the publishers to place a jacket around the almanack.
